I don't know, really... It took me 2 tries to have it carved perfectly (not counting the past years' failed carvings)

Are you sure you're doing the correct thing? Let's just be sure it's the gray Pumpkin you get directly when hunting and you start carving it, after 3 or 4 carvings it becomes a Pumpkin With Face. Or are you using the seed until it becomes a pumpkin and you smash it?

Those two are different things.
